AIKEN, SC -- THOMAS A. COAKLEY, 63, beloved husband of Leslie Coakley, died suddenly, Saturday, August 25, 2012 on Fripp Island, SC.

A native of Newark, OH, Tom was the son of the late Forrest Eugene Coakley and Martha Bringardner Parsons. He was a graduate of Newark High School in 1966 and The University of Florida in 1970 with a B.S. in chemistry. He worked as a chemist for Owens Corning Fiberglass for 35 years until retiring in 2004. After retirement he was a consultant for Advance Glass Fiber Yarns for several years.

Tom was a very active member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church twice serving as an elder, he also served on the membership and finance committee, was a choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Stephen Ministry leader, Bethel Teacher and served as a Pulpit Assistant.

Survivors in addition to his wife Leslie, include a daughter, Laura Coakley and her fiancé, Ron Patton; a son, Tim Coakley and his wife Tracy and two grandchildren, Rachel and Chase Coakley, all of Aiken. Also surviving are his step-mother, Eileen Coakley and two sisters, Nancy Marmie and Sally Coakley, all of Newark, OH.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 1PM at South Aiken Presbyterian Church with The Reverend Dr. Christopher Crotwell officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church gymnasium.

Memorial contributions may be directed to The Stephen Ministery, South Aiken Presbyterian Church, 1711 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC.
